Saco United Baptist Church Project

The summer of 2020 has been a busy time for us with a major chimney restoration in Saco, Maine

With a new boiler being installed and with a chimney undergoing severe deterioration due to age and acid penetrating through the brickwork. A plan was made to restore with a 12” round Stainless liner for the high output boiler. The exterior brickwork was in need of repointing.

The United Baptist Church in Saco, Maine was looking at some serious issues pertaining to the proper venting of a New Gas Boiler that was to be installed. The chimney was in poor condition due to the age and improper maintenance over the long history of the building. The exterior brickwork of the chimney was showing a real safety issue with the brick and mortar possing a safety/liability issue with the church. Many areas of the exterior of the chimney showed missing bricks. Bricks that were in danger of falling out of the structure. The mortar joints were showing years of wear and tear due to the acid from the boiler. The acid was mixing with the rainwater making a serious mess of the brick and mortar work creating a severely deteriorated chimney. We set up proper staging and had rented a man lift to repoint and repair all the brickwork that needed to be done.

The clay/terra-cotta flue tile within the chimney flue had 50 plus years of water, acid from the boiler, and many freeze and thaw cycles that had created fractures. The safe passage of the boiler flue gasses was in critical need of proper ventilation. This is where a new 12” Stainless Flue Liner was installed by our company.
