What we do and why

Our company, “ Howes Chimney Services” have been around for 28 plus years. We provide in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of masonry chimneys and how they work. The masonry structure of your chimney undergoes substantial abuse. The exterior portion of your chimney takes on the weather of Ice, Snow, Lightning, and Rain. Our chimneys have a “Life Expectancy”. Water gets into the relatively porous brick and mortar joints. When the temperature goes below freezing the brickwork and mortar joints can expand creating cracks and displacement of the brick.

The chimney flue is usually made of terra-cotta refractory liners and when installed by stacking creates the passage chase to which is used to vent flue gasses. These gasses come from an oil or gas boiler, Solid fuel such as wood or coal. Each of these products listed has by-products after combustion. With the burning and combustion of Oil or Gas Acid mixed with moisture creates a corrosive substance that eats away at the terra-cotta flue and eventually creates cracks and fissures and broken tile.
